The Morgan Chase block chain sector, Kinexys (formerly Onyx), introduced the Pound sterling block chain deposit account in the United Kingdom, which represents an important extension of its real-time settlement infrastructure following its earlier introduction of euro and dollar services.
In a statement shared with The Block on Monday, Morgan Chase stated: “The new Pounds sterling billing block chain accounts enable customers to conduct seamless cross-border transactions, including 24/7 foreign exchange services. Clients can process and benefit from extended foreign exchange settlements on the day of the weekend, providing increased flexibility, speed and efficiency.”
With the addition of the pound sterling, Morgan Chase corporate clients can now transfer funds between the pound, the euro and the United States dollar, 24 hours a day, regardless of traditional market time. SwapAgent of the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) and Trafigura, a global commodity company, became the first clients to open a Pound sterling account in Kinexys.
Since its first appearance in 2019, the platform has processed more than $1.5 trillion in total transactions, with a daily average activity of more than $2 billion, a 10-fold increase in payments over the same period. Nevertheless, this represents only a small fraction of the approximately $10 trillion in transactions processed daily by the Morgan Chase Payments Department.
Morgan Chase spokesman told The Block: “This is the first block chain product of its kind in the United Kingdom and the first product to actually open a British pound block chain account.”
LSEG SwapAgent is consolidating the pound sterling block chain account into a pilot project of its digital settlement services. “Incorporating Kinexys' innovative digital payment block deposit accounts into our SwapAgent service will enable us to move beyond the traditional branch cut-off and to manage the settlement in a programming manner in the future.” Nathan Ondyak, CEO of SwapAgent, said in a statement.
Trafigura will use these Pounds sterling accounts to effect real-time payments between the financial centres in London, New York and Singapore. It also plans to introduce programmable payment tools to automate liquidity management and transaction execution. Kinexys' programmable payments function allows clients to perform their financial operations automatically through a self-help “if - then” interface - to improve cash flow efficiency and control.
