Enterprise software formerly known as MicroStrategy and Bitcoin Holding Company Strategy suffered losses in the first quarter of this year as a result of a sharp drop in Bitcoin prices. At the beginning of the year, the company held Bitcoin worth $41.7 billion and had invested an additional $7.6 billion in the purchase of Bitcoin by the end of March. However, as a result of the fall in the price of bitcoin during this period, it held only $43.5 billion at the end of the quarter, resulting in a deficit of $5.9 billion. Strategy expects a net loss this quarter.

Bitcoin fell by about 12 per cent to $82,500 during the first three months of the year. In addition to working on software development for large enterprises such as the Hilton Hotel chain and the furniture retailer, Crate & Barrel, Strategy hopes to attract the attention of investors by hoarding bitcoin. The company ' s founder and CEO Michael Saylor has been very interested in bitcoin since the outbreak and first purchased bitcoin as a means of combating inflation in 2021. Since then, the company has continued to finance the purchase of more bitcoin through the issuance of new shares and the assumption of new debt, gradually transforming it into a bitcoin holding company.

Earlier this year, the company changed its name to Strategy and introduced a new orange symbol with a bitcoin symbol. As at 31 March, the company held over $8.2 billion in debt, had to pay approximately $35 million per year in interest and more than $146 million in dividends per year. Given that its business analysis software business has failed to generate a positive cash flow, a further decline in Bitcoin prices would make it difficult for companies to meet their financial obligations by issuing new shares or taking on new obligations.
