WhiteBIT EU has been authorized by the Austrian Financial Markets Authority (FMA) to act in MiCA. This means that the platform can provide regulated encrypted asset services to eligible users in 30 EEA countries. As the EU MiCA transition period draws to an end, the division between card and unlicensed platforms is accelerating.

Austrian plates open the European channel.

The authorized subject is WB-Shield Innovations GmbH, which operates under the name WhiteBIT EU. The licence plate was granted on 19 June 2026. In accordance with the usual mechanism of the MiCA, the platform, after being authorized by a member State of the European Economic Area, may extend its services to the entire European Economic Area without having to reapply for a full licence in each country, subject to meeting the relevant reporting requirements.

This makes the Austrian licence not only a single market permit, but also an entry point for WhiteBIT to the European uniform compliance market. It was mentioned that WhiteBIT was preparing to go online for Whitebit.eu, an EEA user, as its regional platform operating under the MiCA framework.

The July deadline is approaching and the industry is accelerating. Clear.

The critical deadline for the full landing of MiCA is 1 July 2026. European encryption service providers are facing stricter access requirements as the transitional arrangements come to an end. According to Hogan Lovells data, only 194 of the more than 3000 institutions currently registered under the transitional arrangements were fully authorized by the MiCA.

According to the estimate of the firm, about 75 per cent of registered institutions may lose their original eligibility after the end of the transition period, and the European market is thus in a centralized liquidation phase. That is to say, in the future, platforms that can continue to provide legal services to EEA users will be primarily mandated bodies, while others may opt out, work with licensed institutions or cease related operations.

WhiteBIT advanced the European Localization Platform

WhiteBIT states that Whitebit.eu will serve as its compliance hub for the European Economic Area, serving retail and institutional customers. Unlike the direct adoption of the global platform, the new platform will design the operational structure required by the MiCA.

W Group, the WhiteBIT parent company, claims that its global customer base is over 35 million. With this Austrian authorization, WhiteBIT operations in Europe will move from regional layout to full-held operations. For users, the increased number of licensed platforms means that service rules, customer protection and operational requirements will be clearer.

European regulatory tightening

While WhiteBIT has been approved, European multiple-land regulators are compressing the buffer space for unlicensed platforms. It was mentioned that the French market regulator AMF warned that criminal liability might be involved if unlicensed encryption services continued after 1 July 2026. The Federal Financial Supervisory Authority of Germany, BaFin, set 30 June as the relevant licence period.

EMSA ESMA also requires institutions that are still waiting for the results of the approval process to begin processing the customer relocation arrangements if they are unable to obtain authorization by the deadline. With these requirements on the ground, the European encryption market is moving from a transitional period to a stage of formal licensing.
