Meta released on Tuesday a new generation of smart glasses, Meta Glasses, for $299. The product was produced by Meta in collaboration with Essilor Luxottica but no longer uses Ray-Ban or Oakley brands.
Product Configuration
The glasses do not have a screen but are equipped with cameras and loudspeakers. The body button defaults to call Meta AI assistant, or the user can convert it to other functions.
Meta states that the new glasses continue to sail for more than eight hours, with the attached charger providing an additional 40 hours of use. The series has been placed on the market in several countries and provides a variety of colours and lenses.
Models and Cooperation
The first models include “Meta Adventurer”, which uses rectangular mirrors, and “Meta Fury”, which is closer to square male glasses. Meta also launched "Meta Glasses by Kylie" with American model Kylie Jenner.
Market background
Meta stated that the Meta AI on these glasses could answer questions about sports points, restaurant recommendations, and also identify what users see and assist in day-to-day affairs. Courtpoint Research data show that Meta and Essilor Luxottica remain the largest players in the field, with a combined share of over 80 per cent.
Snap just released its consumer-oriented Specs smart glasses a week ago at a price of $2,195.
