The Japanese Finance Office has approved the Ripple dollar stabilization currency, RLUSD, to go online locally. It will be open to retail and institutional customers in Japan through SBI VC Trade and will be included in the category of electronic payment tools under the Payments Services Act. This means that RLUSD has gained a local path to comply in Japan, and that Ripple has advanced the stable currency layout in Asia.
Incorporation into Japan ' s payment regulatory framework
According to reports, RLUSD falls into the category of stable currency issued abroad but which meets local Japanese standards. Once approved, SBI VC Trade can provide services on its VCTRADE platform. RLUSD maintains a 1:1 peg to the United States dollar, and Ripple indicates that its reserves consist of dollar deposits, short-term United States Treasury bonds and cash equivalents.
This arrangement is mainly geared towards situations where payments, settlements, etc. require relatively stable prices. The article also mentions that RLUSD and XRP are separate product lines, which were approved for Ripple 's stable currency business and not for XRP itself.
SBI VC Trade Open to Retails and Institutions
SBI VC Trade is the digital asset business platform under the umbrella of SBI Holdings. With regulatory release, RLUSD will be open to both institutional clients and retail users. For the SBI, this also means that it has added a dollar-denominated product to the local encryption user market in Japan.
Ripple states that RLUSD is used in the direction of payment, tokenized assets and collateral management. Japanese online has also continued the Ripple partnership with the SBI. The two parties signed a memorandum of understanding in August 2025, while earlier cooperation dates back to 2016, with a focus on coverage of block-chain infrastructure and cross-border payment services in Asia.
Japan's stable currency competition continues to rise.
Japan is recently accelerating its efforts to stabilize the currency-related layout. In addition to RLUSD, SBI Group recently introduced the Japanese yen stabilization currency (JPYSC) supported by the Trust Bank with Startale Group. At the same time, the three large Japanese banks, MUFG, SMBC and Suh-ho, are also planning to move forward with business stabilization currency transactions in the fiscal year to March 2027.
On a scale, RLUSD is still significantly smaller than USDT and USDC. According to Ripple, the market value of RLUSD was approximately $1.7 billion; CoinGecko data showed that it had a market value of about $1.6 billion and a 24-hour trade volume of about $116.7 billion. In contrast, USDT market value is about US$ 186 billion and USDC about US$ 74 billion.
However, this approval by Japan provides a clear entry point for RLUSD in regulated markets. Ripple is also continuing to expand the RLUSD compliance coverage as United States, European and Asian regulations on stabilization currencies continue to advance.
