Adobe announced the acquisition of Topaz Labs, the developer of the Image and Video Enhancement Tool, which will be integrated into its creative business. Adobe states that the Topaz Labs model will be integrated into Firefly AI applications and other image and video editing products, and that the transaction is expected to be completed in the second half of 2026.

Topaz Labs has been in operation for more than 20 years, mainly developing video and image enhancement tools. In recent years, the company has introduced its own model, including Astra for AI video uplink and Wonder for image modification and enhancement.

Adobe states that, in addition to integration into Firefly, the relevant capabilities will also enter its image and video editing packages. At the same time, Topaz Labs products will continue to be available through the official network in the form of independent services.

Focus on video repair and detail enhancement

Adobe currently provides part of the Topaz tool in Creative Cloud. Senior Executive Adobe stated that professional users could use these tools to sharpen details, reduce noise and restore archival images when combining real filming material with AI production.

Topaz Labs has also developed a technology aimed at more efficient operation of large video models on the consumer level GPU. Adobe believes that this local capacity helps to increase the speed of response and lower the threshold and cost for creators to use advanced AI functions.

Adobe continues to strengthen its own ecology.

In the area of image and video editing, Adobe is facing competition from Canva and Davinci Research parent company Blackmagic Design. In recent years, Adobe has continuously added the AI function to the flag and built an AI-centred media editing system around Firefly.

The acquisition showed that Adobe wanted to keep more enhanced, repaired and processed in its own ecology, reducing the possibility for users to switch to other software in video editing and later enhancement.
