According to the latest data from the credit card transaction analysis firm Indagari, Anthropic's assistant AI Claude is attracting paid consumers more quickly. Although ChatGPT still holds a larger user base, Claude's consumer growth since 2026 has increased significantly.

Income has increased by about 75% since this year.

Indagari analyses data based on anonymous credit card transactions of about 28 million United States consumers, covering weekly transactions from 2025 to May 10, 2026. Statistical coverage includes subscription fees and API token expenditures. TechCrunch accordingly states that this group of data, while not directly recoverable for the total income or total number of users of Anthropic, is sufficient to reflect the trend.

Data show that Claude ' s income from paid consumers and the number of users continue to grow on a monthly basis. Since 2026 only, this sub-market income has increased by nearly 75 per cent. This means that the customer structure of Anthropic may be expanding further from business and developer groups to a wider range of individual users.

The heat continues after March.

It was mentioned that Claude was often seen as more pro-business, start-up and developer-driven products, particularly by technology users, driven by tools such as Claude Code. However, the latest consumer-end data indicate that this position is changing.

TechCrunch claims that Claude experienced a significant round of growth in March. Since then, its consumption-side expansion has not stagnated, and the increase has continued into subsequent months. The article also mentions that after the incident, when Anthropic refused to allow its model to be used by the Trump Government for large-scale surveillance and autonomous weapons use against the United States population, product interest continued to rise.

The overall scale is still behind ChatGPT.

In addition to payment data, the learning platform DataCamp also indicated to TechCrunch that since the beginning of the year, user interest in Claude has increased significantly. “Claude” has become the most searchable word for the platform, even beyond “AI” itself.

But in total, ChatGPT is still clearly ahead. The market intelligence agency Sensor Tower also shows that Claude has been growing on various platforms this year, but there is still a large gap with ChatGPT.

Indagari also shows that ChatGPT's growth has been relatively moderate in the recent period, but this is more related to its already large coverage. In other words, OpenAI continues to dominate the total number of paid users, but Claude is closing the gap, especially in terms of the amount of consumer payments and the increase in brand recognition.

Additional information:TechCrunch reported that Anthropic did not comment on the above data; the conclusions cited in the paper were mainly derived from third-party transaction data and platform search heat statistics.
