Notion decided to close the mail product Notion Mail and turn the resources to AI proxy. The company indicated that, with the increased capacity of the agent, an increasing number of users no longer opened the inbox directly, but instead left the mail process to the agent for completion.
Discontinuation on 22 September
Notion says that Notion Mail will be offline on September 22nd. The product is connected to Gmail, so the mail content in the user mailbox will not disappear and the original mail will remain in Gmail.
However, if the user wishes to keep the draft mail and send the content on time, it needs to export it itself before the service closes. The company also indicated that users could also export commonly used clips and automatic label instructions to other tools for continued use.
Half the user does not open the inbox
Notion on platform X indicates that, with the enhancement of the Notion proxy function, users are increasingly referring the mail workflow to the agent for processing. According to the company, more than half of the Notion Mail users now do not need to open the inbox interface when managing mail.
This is also the direct reason for the company ' s reorientation. Notion stated that it would then “comprehensively shift” to a model in which the inbox was operated by an agent instead of continuing to maintain an independent mail client product.
The mail product was bet on AI integration.
Notion launched a preview of the mail product after Skiff, the productivity starter of the purchaser ' s safe collaboration in 2024, hoping to combine mail with Notion AI. Its main functions include automatic labelling, mail screening and scheduling on behalf of users.
By April 2025, Notion Mail was officially open to users and tried to compete with mail tools such as Superhuman and Fyxer. Now that the product is closed, it shows that Notion's judgement of the mail scene has changed: the focus is no longer on doing a mailbox entry, but on getting AI agents to take over the mail.
