BitGo disclosure will reduce staff by nearly 15%. According to the encryption hosting and infrastructure company, the move was a one-time adjustment aimed at refocusing resources on a more core business line, including security, trade, currency stabilization, settlement and AI infrastructure.

Retrenchment of approximately 90 posts

The decision was disclosed by the co-founder and CEO Mike Belshe in a letter to the social platform on Thursday and submitted to the United States Securities and Exchange Commission. Bitgo did not disclose the exact number of jobs affected.

According to the company ' s annual report 2025, Bitgo had 603 full-time employees at that time. This round of adjustments involves about 90 jobs at a rate close to 15 per cent. Belshe states that the company does not currently expect to proceed with subsequent downsizing.

Resource shift to five operational directions

In the note, Belshe stated that there had been a change in the ecology of the encryption industry and that the way in which financial services were built had been significantly adjusted, and that companies needed to further narrow their focus and improve their implementation efficiency.

  • Security services
  • Transactions
  • Currency stabilization and settlement
  • AI driven infrastructure

At the same time, he mentioned that the recruitment page of BitGo still had dozens of open positions, which showed that the company was not in full contraction, but rather in a leaning-up structure.

Continued downsizing of encryption and technology companies

Bitgo also joined the new job-reduction in encryption and technology in 2026. Automation, AI tools or efficiency improvements are cited as one of the main reasons for the downsizing of many companies.

According to public reports, Block was downsized in February by approximately 4000 posts; Coinbase by 14 per cent in May; Encrypted Data by Dune by about one quarter of its staff during the same period; and Robinhod was subsequently reduced by about 10 per cent.

More than 120,000 people have been laid off in the wider science and technology industry since this year. Companies such as Microsoft and PayPal also see AI as an important driver of organizational change. However, there are still different views on the market as to whether AI has become the decisive cause of the downsizing.
