The United States Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has approved Mask's acquisition of Mesh Optical Technologies. This original company was created last year by three former SpaceX engineers to develop high-speed communications hardware for data centres.
The transaction review has been expedited
This potential acquisition came from a FTC document, and Bloomberg first reported on progress. The document shows that regulators have accelerated the antimonopoly review process, meaning that the transaction has been released at the regulatory level.
Mesh Optical ended his invisibility in February this year and announced the completion of the $50 million A round of financing, led by Thive Capital. The company was established for a short period of time, but has received capital support on the data centre interface.

The three co-founders of Mesh are Travis Brashears, Cameron Ramos and Serena Grawn-Haeberli. Before starting up the company, the three were involved in the development of light communication links linking thousands of Starlink satellites.
They then shifted the experience to the ground data centre and attempted to develop a light transceiver. Light-based communications hardware transfers are faster and less energy-consuming than conventional telecommunications programmes.
Targeting AI data centre capabilities
According to the report, SpaceX has recently agreed with Anthropic, Google and Open-source AI Developer Reflecting AI to provide a calculator for its data centre. This business is generating new sources of income for the newly listed company.
If the acquisition is completed, Mesh technology may be used in the future to improve the efficiency of communications at SpaceX data centres. Relevant scenarios include not only ground-based facilities but also future space infrastructure.
