Music stream media platform TIDAL adjusted the way to process AI to generate music. According to the new policy, music generated exclusively by AI will be marked out and disqualified from realization on the platform. According to the company, this was done to protect the connection between the original creator and the audience, not to oppose technological development.

Effective 15 July

TIDAL indicates that the Platform will add an "AI" identifier to a track identified as 100% AI-generated to enable the user to recognize the content before listening. The new regulations will enter into force on 15 July 2026.

  • Relevant tracks cannot participate in platform realization
  • No royalties.
  • No direct sales to fans.

Platform emphasizes the protection of original creators

TIDAL Manager Tony Gervino states in his bulletin that many artists and users do not want to have frequent contact on the platform or be recommended for exclusively AI-generated music. The company has therefore focused its policy on protecting and rewarding original creation.

At the same time, he stated that the adjustment was not intended to stifle technological progress, but was an attempt to maintain the creative space and user experience in the context of the expansion of the AI tool.

The streaming platform is tightening up the AI music management.

TIDAL is consistent with the actions of other streaming media platforms in recent years. Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer and Qobuz have established their own identification or restriction mechanisms for AI music.

Among them, Spotify updated its policy last year and started to strengthen AI music labels and garbage content filters. Apple Music also uses tagging. Deezer's tougher. The company had previously stated that 44 per cent of the new music uploaded to the platform on a daily basis generated content for AI and had excluded such items from the reference system and the editing list.

Make it a new test.

TIDAL this time did not directly lay down pure AI music, but chose to reduce its attractiveness by eliminating commercialization. This means that the platform wants to deal with the rapid growth of AI music with revenue constraints rather than mere content closures.

Additional information:The company indicated that the policy document would be updated on an ongoing basis and that the follow-up would be adjusted to the changes in the industry.
