SBI Holdings has approved the final agreement for the acquisition of Japan's encryption exchange bitbank. The company disclosed that, upon completion of the transaction, the SBI would indirectly hold 100 per cent of the Bitbank voting rights through a multi-step arrangement. The transaction is still subject to review by the Japan Fair Trading Commission and other regular delivery conditions are met.
The consolidated trust assets are approximately Yen1.1 trillion.
SBI plans to integrate bitbank into the existing encryption operations SBI VC Trade and to continue to expand its map of the Japanese-owned encryption market. On the basis of data as of 30 April, the combined client trust assets amounted to approximately Yen1.1 trillion and the encrypted accounts to a total of approximately 2.92 million.
This is also part of the ongoing integration of the SBI in Japan's encryption exchange market at a recent stage. Previously, in April 2026, the SBI VC Trade merged with Bitpoint Japan. In May, the SBI initiated formal acquisition negotiations with Bitbank.
Bitbank operations will be integrated into the system
Bitbank currently provides spot transactions, borrowing and payment services related to encrypted assets. The SBI itself cuts across banking, securities, insurance and digital asset operations. If the deal goes down, bitbank will become another important encryption platform brand under the umbrella of the SBI.
Bitbank stated that, during the acquisition advance, existing services would remain unchanged and that users would not see significant adjustments in the short term.
SBI continues to bet on stable currency and chain finance
In explaining the significance of the transaction, the SBI mentioned that bitbank has maintained a “zero hacking” record since its inception. In the company ' s view, this security performance has helped it to continue to enhance its encrypted asset operations and enhance user confidence.
In addition to trading operations, the SBI expressed the wish to further expand financial services related to the stabilization of currency and chain finance following the inclusion of bitbank in the group.
Earlier this year, SBI and Startale launched the Layer 1 block chain, Strium, which targets securities monetization, foreign exchange and real-world assets. The project also includes a compliance Japanese currency stabilization plan issued by Shinsei Trust & Banking and distributed through SBI VC Trade.
Additional information:In collaboration with Visa, a joint card product has recently been launched. Users can obtain a Bitcoin, Ether and XRP awards through SBI VC Trade and Apples.
