Anthropic published the AI desk Claude Science for scientists, which seeks to centralize databases, analytical tools and collaborative processes in the same environment. The company stressed that this was not a new model, but a research work stream product based on the existing Claude model.
Not a new model.
Claude Science is based on Claude for Life Sciences, which was launched in 2025, but this time it's not just about increasing the scientific capabilities of chat robots, but working as a stand alone. The focus of Anthropic also extends from modelling capacity to the process of use in the scientific landscape.
This reflects the direction of the company ' s products at a recent stage. Anthropic hopes to be not just a model supplier, but also a more high-frequency operational entry point in the vertical industry, like Claude Code.
Access to more than 60 scientific data Library
At the heart of Claude Science is an assistant who is responsible for the integration of research tasks. It connects more than 60 scientific databases and provides pre-positioned toolkits in genomics, protein structure, chemistry, etc. The primary assistant can also split the task, call multiple sub-Associators to work together or access the “expert assistant” created by the user.
Prior to the output of the results, the system will also include an independent fact-checking AI to review references and calculations. Anthropic tried to reduce the error rate in scientific writing and analysis.
In order to enhance replicability, the desk will also keep complete process information in the production of graphs. For example, 3D protein structure maps or chemical mapping not only output results, but also their coding, operating environment, natural language descriptions and complete message records.
Different path from OpenAI
Anthropic also stresses that Claude Science can operate on a laboratory-owned infrastructure without sending data to an Anthony server. This is particularly important for institutions dealing with sensitive scientific data and helps to reduce deployment resistance.
Unlike the path of Anthropic, OpenAI launched a dedicated model for biological reasoning in April of this year, GPT-Rosalind, with greater emphasis on the specialization of the model itself. Google DeepMind has basic science models such as AlphaFold and AlphaGenome, which are made available through Gemini for Science in packages with over 30 life science databases.
Claude Science is currently available as a test version for subscriptions to Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise. Anthropic also plans to support up to 50 projects and to provide up to $30,000, and the application will close on 15 July 2026.
