The British Autopilot AI Wayve initiated a $85 million staff equity transfer arrangement that allows employees to sell part of the equity. The transaction corresponded to the most recent valuation of $8.5 billion, involving both current and new investors.

Valuation follows February financing pricing

Wayve, this pricing comes from the D round of financing that was completed in February this year. At the time, company finance was $1.2 billion, with the participation of Eclipse, Balderton and the Soft Silver Vision Fund II, and Ontario Teachers ' Pensions, Bailey Gifford, Microsoft, Weight and Uber.

This is Wayve's second time providing staff with mobility arrangements. In May 2024, a similar transaction took place simultaneously with the completion of the $105 billion C round of financing.

It's more common for AI to sell.

Such arrangements have recently become more common among AI start-ups. Enterprises are more inclined to transfer shares than to wait for listing or M & As, so as to reduce the pressure of brain drain by giving employees a partial realization opportunity after ownership.

Companies that have recently completed similar employee-sale arrangements include AI Client Agent Decagon, Voice Generation Company Eleven Labs, Project Management Platform Linear, and Marketing and Marketing Automation Company Clay. It was reported that Clay had conducted two similar transactions in the past nine months.

Wayve thrust auto-driving down.

Wayve develops auto-driving systems using self-learning routes. Unlike a programme that relies on the pre-construction of high-precision maps, companies use end-to-end neural networks in an attempt to allow the system to learn to drive primarily through data.

The company wants to create a generic AI-driving system that can operate under different national, vehicle-type and road conditions. Over the past year, the total number of Wayve employees has risen to over 1,200, more than double the previous expansion.

It is planned that Wayve will start the robotaxi pilot project later this year in collaboration with Uber and prepare to access its AI software to the next generation of Japanese-born driving aids from 2027 onwards.
