More than 140 financial, technological and encryption institutions are supporting the launch of Open USD, a union-stable currency for global payments and institutional settlements. Participants included Ripple, Visa, MasterCooper, Beled, Coinbase, Google, Stripe, Shopify, Melon Bank, Solana, Bybit and OKX. The project is scheduled to go online later this year.

Alliance governance replaces single issuer

Unlike stable currencies often issued by single companies, OUSD uses the Alliance governance model. According to project disclosures, participating members will participate in governance, and the benefits from reserve assets will be shared by ecological members, after a small amount of management costs.

  • No charge for foundry and foreclosure.
  • Do not set artificial transaction caps
  • Participation in governance by the independent board of directors on behalf of member institutions

This structure targets the concerns of institutional users over the overdependence of a single issuer. The project seeks to enhance the transparency and scalability of payment networks through decentralized governance and distribution of proceeds.

Ripple was the first to be integrated. Square

In this collaboration, Ripple was listed as the first day of integration. The company indicated that the stabilization currency was changing the way in which the value was transferred and that interoperability was a key condition for institutionalization.

From a positioning point of view, this is in line with Ripple ' s recent direction, which is to provide institutions with interoperable block chain payment infrastructure. With OUSD ' s future access to more platforms, Ripple ' s technology could be used to connect stable currencies, transfers between French currency and other digital assets and liquidity arrangements.

Stable currency competition to co-network

The publication also reflects a changing industry strategy. In the past, a number of companies had tended to build closed payment networks; now, financial institutions, technology companies, encrypted trading platforms and public-chain projects were working around shared infrastructure.

If OUSD lands as planned this year, it will enter the stable currency market with a larger coalition of institutions. Its coalition model will facilitate the adoption of institutional payments, depending on the progress of members ' access, settlement area expansion and network mobility.
