The EthLabs was released at a time when the Etherfam Foundation experienced continuous personnel changes. It was reported that EthLabs had been laid off before and after its appearance, and that there had been high-level departures. Since January this year, at least nine well-known members of the Foundation have left, indicating that the core institution is in the process of making greater strategic adjustments.
Ansgar Dietrichs, Executive Director of EthLabs, stated that the team had decided to form its own new body after observing the lack of a successor for some of the tasks. Its founding members include five former ETA Foundation researchers and developers, some of whom participated in the launching of EthLabs after leaving the Foundation this year.
The focus of work is on landing.
According to Dietrichs, the focus of ETA over the past decade has been on infrastructure development, including smart contracts, DeFi, amplification techniques and the Layer 2 network. As these basic modules evolve, the tasks that follow are more oriented towards the real world, in particular the ability to support large-scale financial infrastructure.

In accordance with EthLabs ' positioning, the institution will also study technical issues that impede wider institutional use of the Etherak and engage with financial institutions exploring block-chain infrastructure.
Positioned as Supplementary Foundation
In response to external speculation about whether to replace the Etherwood Foundation, Dietrichs argued that EthLabs' objective was to fill the gap, not to propose a new course of competition with the Foundation. The judgement is that the Foundation is moving further to recover its focus on core values such as credible neutrality, autonomy and open infrastructure, while reducing direct participation in some of its implementation-oriented services.
It was reported that this adjustment was accompanied by budgetary pressures and internal restructuring. Dietrichs describes it as a transition period, not a crisis. In his view, the ETA was being repositioned for a new stage of development: the Foundation was taking on a more value-based role, with independent organizations sharing in adoption and implementation.
The new organization is still awaiting validation
EthLabs is still a new non-profit organization. It will then need to establish its own sources of funding, and at the same time to prove that it is outside the Foundation that it can still have a real impact on the technology routes of the Taifaf.
However, the emergence of this institution also reflects the changing distribution of responsibilities within the Etherak ecology. As the Foundation narrows down part of its implementation, more independent organizations may move into specific areas such as expansion, interoperability and institutionalization, and move the Etherpo into the next stage of development.
