The French company Mistral AI is focusing on business and government clients rather than simply competing for chat robot markets. With the rapid growth of revenues, the company in Paris is simultaneously advancing the open weight model, AI Cloud and European local data centres.

Revenue growth faster than brand expansion

TechCrunch points out that Mistral's consumer end product profile is still lagging behind ChatGPT and that even within the French entrepreneurship circles, its model is not necessarily more focused than Anthropic. However, the commercialization of companies is clearly moving faster.

Mistral had previously disclosed that annualized recurrent income had risen from $20 million a year earlier to over $400 million, and that it was expected to make a breakthrough of $1 billion this year. The company CEO Arthur Mensch recently indicated that the main current revenue comes from the deployment of models for business clients, proxy platforms and the use of Forge to help clients customize models based on their own data training.

Summer will push the open weight model.

Mensch states that Mistral does not yet have the strongest language model, but the gap with his head is narrowing. The company plans to launch an open weight model this summer and open early access in July.

In addition to large-language models, Mistral has developed multimodular, reasoning, audio and OCR models, as well as small model series for peripheral devices such as mobile phones. Part of the model uses an open weight policy and code agent Leanstral is already open.

Expansion of AI Cloud and European Data Centre

According to reports, Mistral recently acted more like an AI infrastructure company. The company acquired the infrastructure start-up company Koyeb earlier this year to advance its own AI Cloud Project.

At the same time, the company announced an investment strategy of Euro4 billion for the construction of data centres in France and Sweden. According to Mistral, AI is becoming the foundational capacity needed by the various institutions, and it is necessary to establish a secure and affordable local supply system.

Cumulative financing approximately $4.0 billion

According to TechCrunch, the cumulative scale of Mistral ' s financing is approximately $4 billion, a significant part of which comes from debt financing. Its main financing nodes include $113 million in 2023, Euro385 million in Round A at the end of 2023, and Euro600 million in equity-lending in 2024.

  • Alleged to be raising some $3.5 billion in new funds
  • Anecdotal estimates are about $23.15 billion.
  • If completed, the valuation will nearly double the current level

At the level of cooperation, Mistral has established cooperation with companies such as Microsoft, Weeda, ASML, IBM, Orange and Stellantis, and is also involved in the AI Campus project in Paris, France.
