According to external media reports, Tesla began to limit staff-related expenditure after expanding its internal AI. The company has informed its employees that, as of 6 July, the ceiling for the use of the AI tool is $200 per week, which is partially subject to approval by the supervisor. This means that earlier, some engineers spent thousands of dollars a week on Token's way of ending.

This adjustment took place after Tesla continued to promote corporate AI. Mask has stressed several times in recent years that future growth in Tesla is more dependent on AI-driven business such as Robotaxi and Optimus than on car sales alone. In this context, AI is beginning to become a more realistic management issue within the company by how inputs can become more efficient.

Buttle Rocket Unified Access Model

It was reported that Tesla had launched an internal platform, Bottle Rocket, last year to provide staff with access to tools such as Openai, Anthropic, XAI and Cursor, and that some of the model versions had not yet been publicly released. Many employees use various AI products mainly through their personal accounts before the platform is online.

However, once the platform was established, rules for its use at the company level were not harmonized. Early policies are more self-developed by operational departments and standards are not consistent. It was not until this spring that Tesla tightened access further, restricting employees from using models other than Bottle Rocket through company computers and internal networks, and reminding employees not to enter company secrets into unauthorized AI systems.

Cost control start preset

It was mentioned that some teams within Tesla had been online earlier this year, using a tracking panel to measure the consumption of departments and staff. At one time, the company encouraged greater use of AI by engineers and ranked high-volume employees; at the same time, however, management has repeatedly emphasized the need to control costs and process sensitive data.

This time, a maximum of $200 per week is set to indicate that the company has begun to pre-empt the cost. According to the source, the test version of the xAI product is not included in this amount. Tesla ' s approach is also similar to that of other large enterprises, namely, to promote rapid adoption of AI by staff, and then to tighten budgets and competencies.

There is limited acceptance of the Grok propulsion.

Mask has been pushing under the flag of AI products into Tesla. In April this year, after a deepening collaboration between XAI and Cursor, he sent e-mails to encourage employees to experiment with relevant programming models. In June this year, he added that SpaceX and Tesla were testing the latest model of xAI Grok 4.5.

However, the report cites sources that Grok ' s acceptance within Tesla is not high and that some employees are still more inclined to use Anthropic Claude for day-to-day development tasks. This also indicates that when AI is deployed within the enterprise, there is not always consistency between management facilitation and the actual selection of front-line staff.

In addition to software development, Tesla is expanding AI to more business. The Nova platform, based on in-house data training, was launched last year to provide knowledge queries and process support to cover scenes ranging from leave policy to plant failure screening. Corporate executives have also recently mentioned that AI is being used for engineering access and vehicle quality testing. As the scope of application continues to expand, the balance between cost, efficiency and data security will become more important.
