Anthropic is expanding Claude Cowork from a desktop to a web page and a mobile side, further facilitating the access of this AI agent to a wider office scene. The product, originally closer to the Claude Code style, is now being positioned to work as administrative and intellectual assistants who can collaborate across equipment and continue to work backstage.
Moving from code tool to office agent
This extension shows that Anthropic hopes that Cowork will no longer be a programming tool, but will become an AI collaboration assistant covering daily work. According to the company, even if the user is not online, the agent can continue to operate the task backstage; when a matter has to be decided by the user, manual intervention is requested.
This also reflects the changing focus of AI on corporate competition. Instead of focusing on chat interfaces, the relevant products begin to enter the actual work scenes of reports, tables, studies and administrative processes. TechCrunch reported that OpenAI was also driving in a similar direction, and that Codex had gradually extended from the development of tools to reports, presentations and data analysis missions used by non-developers.
Desktop end still works in depth
Anthropic indicates that desktop applications will continue to be the main entry point for complex tasks, as it allows access to local files and browsers. By contrast, the meaning of the web page and the mobile end is to expand the availability of access to the Cowork by users who do not have desktop applications.
The company also stated that the web and desktop end would first integrate chat and cowork functions and that the project and generation content would be synchronized between the two ends. This means that Claude ' s general capacity for dialogue and proxy implementation will gradually be consolidated into the same workflow.
Anthropic also previously launched Claude Tag, based in Slack, as an inside AI teammate. In conjunction with this Cowork multiplatform, the company has moved from a single chat robot to a continuous AI assistant embedded in office software and collaborative processes.
Early data focus on administrative processes
Anthropic also disclosed Cowork's early use data, showing that the clearest needs are not programmed, but rather the maintenance of miscellaneous work in the day-to-day running of the business. Companies define such tasks as those that are “widespread in many jobs but are not usually core functions”.
According to the disclosure, the study counted 1.2 million anonymous aggregate sessions from over 600,000 institutions in the last two weeks of May. The largest category of use was “business process operation”, reaching 33.4 per cent.

According to Anthropic, such tasks are more common in finance, human resources and administrative positions. In the company ' s view, as AI moves from a programming scenario to a day-to-day business process, it is often the core decision-making itself that is the first to feel value, but rather the multiplicity of repetitive matters that revolve around the work.
