Yield Gild Gomes announced the closure of the Web3 Game Distribution Department, YGG Play, and the reduction of 35 posts. The company disclosed that the encryption market had returned to the fold and continued pressure of the game industry, making the business difficult to sustain and that follow-up resources would be directed towards AI data.
Offline operations by 1 August
According to company disclosures, the YGG Play Network, Launchpad and LOL Land, Waifu Sweeper games will cease to operate by 1 August. Gigashatbat and Ragnarok Breaker will continue to be the responsibility of the original development team after the handover.
YGG Play is Yield Guild, a chain distribution department launched in 2025. The company had previously worked with Pudgy Penguins and signed several games.
The company says the market has been stalling.
According to the company, despite the fact that YGG Play had accumulated more than $9 million by the first quarter of 2026, it was difficult to continue to expand in the current environment. Over the past two years, multiple projects have been stopped on the chain track, and investment has slowed significantly.
At the same time, the price of encrypted assets has generally fallen since the end of last year, and the traditional game industry is experiencing large-scale layoffs. The co-founder of Yield Guild, Gabby Dizon, stated that the closure of YGG Play was based on decisions made in the market environment and not on poor performance of the product itself.
- YGG Play Cumulative income over $9 million
- This is a reduction of 35 personnel.
- Related operations will be in place by 1 August Line
Resource shift to AI training data
The company disclosed that it would invest more resources in the AI data economy as a result of the reorganization, hoping to provide data sets for AI model training using the player ' s behaviour and decision data in the game. Yield Guild believes that this type of game record has commercial value.
As of the first quarter of 2026, Yield Guild disclosed an asset reserve of approximately $20.6 million. The company stated that, upon completion of the current restructuring, this component of the fund could extend the operating period to approximately four years.
The coin is still at a much higher level than ever.
After the news was released, YGG tokens rose by about 4 per cent that day, reporting about 0.023 dollars. By year, however, the currency had fallen by about 84 per cent over the past year, or 99.8 per cent from the high point of $11.17 in 2021.
Additional information:In 2021, Yield Guild was given attention to Axie Infinity-related business and received an investment in the same year by Andreasen Horowitz; the company has since moved to business such as public infrastructure and game distribution.
