The United States Government ' s plan to promote the Bitcoin strategic reserve was delayed. This is due to the fact that the Ministries of Finance and Commerce have not yet agreed on who will be responsible for the project, and the White House is still assessing this reserve mechanism and the final structure of another digital asset inventory.
Reserve authority not finalized
The plan, which was initiated by the Trump Government, centred on the integration of bitcoin obtained by the United States Government through seizures into the strategic reserve at the national level. The current controversy is focused on the implementation level, i.e., who leads the management and landing of the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Commerce.
Sectoral differences have led to the suspension of the project in the architecture design phase and to the continuation of the implementation of this digital asset policy.
Proposed inclusion of approximately 328,000 bitcoin
Under the current programme, the strategic reserve would hold 328,372 bitcoin, valued at approximately $25 billion by medium calibre. This portion of the assets was derived mainly from bitcoin previously obtained by the United States Government through law enforcement seizures.
- Proposed inclusion of bitcoin: 328,372
- Volume of valuation: approximately $25 billion
- Source of assets: Government seized proceeds
The White House assesses the final structure
It was mentioned that the Office of the Legal Adviser of the United States Department of Justice was working with the Departments of Finance and Commerce on relevant legal issues. At the same time, the White House is looking at the final form of organization of the Bitcoin strategic reserve.
In addition to the Bitcoin strategic reserve, the Government is assessing a separate digital asset inventory arrangement. The distinction between the two mechanisms, who regulates them and how they will be implemented will remain the focus of the current discussion.
