Following the update of the “Lean Etheum” road map, Vitalik Buterin studied the community's overall response in a positive manner. A number of core researchers agreed on the long-term direction that the future of the network should be driven around higher throughput, lower operating costs, privacy protection and quantum resistance. However, discussions around the road map quickly focused on the same issue: whether the pace of implementation was too slow.

Researchers generally agree on direction

The updated road map proposes long-term adjustments to the core parts of the Etherfrog, with the goal of making the network faster, cheaper and easier to validate. The road map also places privacy and quantum resistance at a higher level, demonstrating the desire of the Taifang to respond in advance to the security pressures of future computing capacity changes.

According to the co-founder of StarkWare, Eli Ben-Sasson, the programme contained a number of positive elements, although some of the design was still unclear, and some questions remained to be resolved. In particular, he is certain that the retrogression of STARKs has been placed at the heart of the future architecture, which means that there has been a marked change in the attitude of the Taifung to the relevant password tools.

3-4 year schedule challenged

At the same time, he said that it was in the right direction to prioritize privacy and quantum-resistant cryptography, particularly with regard to quantum security, which should not be delayed for too long. Ben-Sasson put it bluntly, 3-4 years of propulsion are too long.

A similar view was expressed by Dankrad Feist, who was a researcher of the Etherwood Foundation. In his view, near-immediate transaction finality and greater capacity to swallow up could significantly change the experience of the use of the Taifeng, but the speed of advance would appear inadequate if three to four years were to wait.

Feist also mentioned that the recent development of AI tools, especially large-language models, could help to speed up the development of processes, thereby enabling some of the targets to land earlier.

Part of the design remains to be further elaborated

In addition to the timetable, there are researchers who focus on specific design. Ben-Sasson questioned the reference in the road map to the introduction of a new “state” and suggested that the concept needed to be further clarified, including which participants it would affect and how the existing system could be changed.

Barnabé Monnot, a researcher at the Ether House Foundation, compared the difference between the version and the February draft. He noted that some of the upgrades that had been used to expedite block generation had been placed later, while the related adjustments to the consensus system had been advanced and some of the functions previously proposed had been deleted.

From the current public feedback, there is little disagreement about the future direction of ETA communities. More of the current concern is not whether these upgrades should be advanced, but whether they can be landed in a shorter period of time.
