Vitalik Buterin updates the Etheraf's “Lean Egypt” road map. The new programme places primary privacy at the heart of the protocol, while raising the priority of antiquantific cryptography and a lighter verification structure, outlining a technology main line for the next three to four years.

Privacy to Bottom Accord

The road map shows that the Ether Workshop is moving from a wallet and application to a bottom-up network itself. In line with this objective, the programme re-examines key modules such as consensus, transactions, certificationer records and status storage, with the objective of supporting greater privacy without unduly increasing the network burden.

Buterin also discussed privacy and security together. In his view, future ETA design would not only improve the visibility of user activities but also prepare for the risks associated with greater computing capability, including the long-term threat that quantum computing could pose.

Antiquator and STARK Authentication

The road map mentions that some of the existing password components may need to be gradually replaced in the future, including BLS signatures, KZG commitments and ECDSA signatures. In the direction, the ETA will take more account of the Quantum Password Tool to enhance long-term security.

Another focus is the introduction of STARK-based authentication. Under this design, the recalculation is performed by a single certifying officer, and the other nodes only need to validate the lesser certification, without having to repeat the full computation process. This is expected to lighten the nodal burden and support the larger scale of the situation.

Buterin, in his post on July 6, also spoke of a simpler consensus chain design. Currently, the SPA maintains multiple information for each certifier, including public keys, withdrawal records, balance data and status fields. The new programme hopes to reduce these requirements to a smaller scale.

The road map also provides daily proof of balance. Validators can demonstrate their activities through STARK rather than relying on continuous state updates, which means that a large number of existing end-of-cycle processes are expected to be reduced.

In the privacy section, the road map also proposes to introduce a daily updated identity for the certifying officer. A certifier may register a new public key during the balance certification process, thereby reducing the likelihood of a direct link between old and new identities.

The Foundation synchronizes the structure

At the time of the publication of the road map, the Etheraf Foundation was also adjusting its organizational structure. The report mentions that the Agency has been downsized by about 20 per cent and reduced budget targets, and that some of the contributors to the agreements have left or adjusted their responsibilities.

While the development team continues to advance long-term technical planning, the “Lean Etheum” road map provides a clearer direction for the way forward. However, the document itself was not a fixed schedule for promotion. It is also mentioned that the Hegotá fork could become the last fork before the “Lean” phase begins.
