The bitcoin holding warehouse of the Japanese-listed company Metaplanet has increased to 43,000. Corporate disclosures indicate that this scale has increased it beyond the United States mining company MARA Holdings to the third largest listed company worldwide, after two United States companies.

2nd quarter buys 2,823 more

The company disclosed that Metaplanet had re-entered after a short suspension in the second quarter of 2026, during which time 2,823 bitcoins were purchased and approximately 35,886 million yen were invested. It is mentioned in the report that this funding continues to be used to increase the cost of holding bitcoin and to help reduce the actual cost of the new hold.

The market value of Metaplanet ' s current holdings of 43,000 bitcoins is estimated at approximately Yen409 billion. Over the past two years, the company has invested some 659 billion yen in the establishment of this Bitcoin reserve.

More than MARA, approaching second place.

According to BitcoinTreasurys.net's corporate currency ranking, Metaplanet now exceeds the MARA Holdings, which hold 36,303 bitcoins. According to the report, Metaplanet is 514 bitcoins short of the second place in the world.

This means that in just two years, the Japanese company has built up a large bitcoin bank from zero and is rising rapidly among globally listed companies. Michael Saylor, founder of MicroStrategy, also wrote on social platforms congratulating him on reaching 43,000 bitcoins.

Market valuation remains below holding value

It was also mentioned that, despite the significant increase in the size of the Bitcoin reserve in Metaplanet, the company ' s current market valuation was still below its bitcoin value. By contrast, the world ' s largest Bitcoin holding stock, Strategy, is typically valued at a value higher than the value of its Bitcoin reserves by about 8 per cent.

According to the article, this makes Metaplanet more specific in the Asian market: on the one hand, the company has established a large digital asset reserve and, on the other hand, the market ' s overall valuation still does not fully reflect the size of this asset.
