OpenAI is further expanding the focus of ChatGPT's products from individual users to family scenes. According to an updated recruitment information, the company is recruiting a product manager in San Francisco to design relevant experiences for families, caregivers and the elderly.

This move shows that ChatGPT is no longer seen as a personal efficiency tool, but is beginning to be promoted by OpenAI as a general assistant to the daily life of the family. Recruitment information refers to the need for candidates to have product experience for parents, families and high-trust consumption scenarios.

Move user age structure up

TechCrunch refers to Sensor Tower estimates that the age structure of ChatGPT is moving upwards. In the second quarter of 2026, the global share of users aged 35 and over rose to 31 per cent, up from 26 per cent a year earlier; the share of users aged 18 to 24 fell from 34 per cent to 29 per cent.

In the United States, the use of parent groups is also increasing. Sensor Tower estimates that about a quarter of parents in the United States have used ChatGPT in the second quarter, up from 16 per cent a year ago.

Children use more frequently than parents

The protection of minors and the safety of content have become more prominent as AI products enter more home settings. Stephen Balkam, Chief Executive Officer of the Family Online Safety Institute, stated that an AI product for children and adolescents required a different protection design than an adult product.

A study published this week by the agency shows that parents may have underestimated the frequency with which children use generated AI. A survey of over 4000 households in the United States and Australia showed that 27 per cent of United States parents indicated that their children had used a generation AI in the past week, but that the self-reporting rate for children was 38 per cent.

OpenAI has increased protection for the family.

While the protection of minors continues to be a concern for the outside world, OpenAI has introduced a number of security functions over the past year, including parental control of youth accounts, the transfer of sensitive dialogue to reasoning models that are more appropriate for identifying painful signals, and optional Trusted Practices.

It was also mentioned that OpenAI had recently organized workshops with Community Impact San Antonio and Positive Coaching Alliance to discuss the role of AI in learning, coaching and youth participation. This indicates that the family and youth scene is becoming part of the OpenAI product layout.

Additional information:TechCrunch stated that OpenAI had failed to respond to requests for evaluation of this recruitment information; the report also mentioned that OpenAI had recently been subjected to parental action for the risk of use of minors.
