In San Francisco, about 200 protesters marched to the offices of OpenAI, Anthropic and Google DeepMind to call for a moratorium on the development of a stronger AI model. The event was organized by "Stop the AI Competition" and protesters expressed concern about AI's security, unemployment, environmental impact and rising housing costs.
According to the organizer, Michel Trazi, the objective of the protest was to induce AI to stop training new models and shift the focus of research to AI security and alignment until security measures were strengthened. Tlazi noted that since the first protests in March this year, the movement has received increased support and the organizers plan to continue to push for a moratorium on AI development at the international level and call on legislators to strengthen their oversight of the advanced AI system.
This protest took place against a backdrop of growing concerns about security in AI, and OpenAI and Anthropic have recently faced legal and regulatory investigations.
