Arkham, a web-based data platform, shows that the United States government's wallets have been transferred to Coinbase Prime for about $288 million bitcoin and Ether. The news appeared during the repair phase of the encrypted market, where the market followed up on whether the transfer meant that the Government was prepared to sell the warehouse.

Transferred assets included 3941 bitcoins

The data show that the transfer consisted of 3941 BTCs, valued at approximately $244 million, and another 3007 ETHs, valued at approximately $5.309 million. The assets involved encrypted currency seized in the Ryan Farace, BTC-e and Brian Krewson cases.

Despite significant transfers, the United States Government remains one of the world ' s largest holders of bitcoin. Arkham data indicate that it currently controls approximately 32,4552 BTCs, 28394 ETHs, with a combined encrypted value of over $20.4 billion.

It's been transferred to Coinbase Prime several times.

This is not the first time that the United States Government has transferred encrypted assets to Coinbase Prime. Public records indicate that similar operations have taken place on several occasions in the last two years.

  • Transferred to 140.21 BTCs on 13 July 2026, approximately $8.79 million
  • Transferred to 8 BTCs on 16 April 2026 concerning the 2016 Bitfinex hacker case
  • Transferred to 19,800 BTCs on 2 December 2024, approximately $1.92 billion

Earlier, in April 2024, the United States Government had also transferred about 30,175 BTCs to Coinbase Prime, some $2 billion in size, a larger bit of bitcoin transfer.

It's more like a hosting transfer.

In the past, such transfers did not necessarily correspond to sales. In the original version, it was mentioned that the United States Government had previously transferred assets only to Coinbase Prime on a number of occasions, without a clear record of sale. Coinbase Prime also has a long-standing institutional hosting function for some government encrypted assets.

The transfer may be used for safe custody, wallet integration, legal process processing or victim compensation arrangements. In another context, an executive order signed by the United States Government in March 2025 proposed that as much of the Bitcoin holdout as possible should be retained rather than routinely sold.

According to this formulation, the assets may be disposed of only in specific legal circumstances, such as when the court requests the return of the funds of the victim. As a result, for the time being, the transfer is closer to a hosting or internal sorting exercise rather than a confirmed sale.
