Senra, a liner manufacturing company founded by Jordan Black, a former SpaceX engineer, announced the completion of the $65 million B round. The company wants to use software tools and automated processes to re-engineer line production, which has long relied on manual experience, and to expand its capacity with a warmer United States investment in manufacturing.
Wire beams are electrical connection systems within rockets, vehicles, aircraft and engineering vehicles. The importance of such components has also increased as equipment has become more electronic, but production methods are still more traditional and many depend on skilled technicians to do so manually.
Financing involves multiple institutions
This round of financing was co-financed by Lowercarbon and Interlagos, and involved institutions such as General Catalest, Redwood Capital, Andressen Horowitz and Founders Fund. Senra was founded in 2023 and initiated by Black and the co-founder Benjamin Shanahan.
Black was in charge of expanding line-based capacity in SpaceX to support Starship project production. He indicated that he had visited a number of line-side enterprises around the world and found that many of the processes in the industry were still in the manual stage, with limited standardization and digitization.
Standardize and automate.
Senra does not intend to replace the man with a robot. It was noted that liner operations were still complex for robots and that training data were insufficient. The company ' s approach is to harmonize material, process and engineering changes with software systems before gradually increasing the automation chain.
Senra uses a self-research platform management beam production input called Ap and produces digital twinning models for implementation by technicians according to uniform standards. Black believes that the integration of material tracking, design adjustments and production processes into the same software would reduce minor errors that subsequently magnify into serious problems.
Defense and space demand-driven expansion
Senra did not disclose specific customers, but stated that the customers covered submarines, marine carriers, ground defence systems, launch vehicles and satellite manufacturers. Companies are benefiting from increased financial investment in United States manufacturing, particularly in the field of defence industry infrastructure.
An industry case was also mentioned. Boeing discovered in 2023 that a portion of the Starliner ship lined with flammable tape had led to the extension of the project and the re-engineering of the entire wiring system. Such incidents were also seen as contributing to the increased standardization and traceability of line beam manufacture.
Currently, Senra produces about 1,000 wire beams per month in two factories and plans to increase monthly capacity to 10,000 units by 2027.
