AI applications in the automobile industry continue to attract funds. Self Action, based in San Diego, completed $10 million in financing, with the family office of the former Meta executive, Cheryl Sandberg. The owner of the company used the vehicle look-detection software, hoping to transfer the process, which would have been manual and underline, to the mobile phone.

Over 1 million tests completed

Self Action was founded in 2021. According to the company, its platform has completed more than 1 million vehicle tests for rental convoys, car finance companies, auction platforms and trading markets. Stellantis is also using the system in the financial services sector, covering company-owned vehicles and lease expiry detection.

The core selling point for this product is the low threshold. Once the software is purchased by an enterprise client, links can be sent directly to the user. Users need only use smartphones to photograph the vehicle, and the system will guide the process to complete and cover the whole car.

Identify car damage and generate quotations with photographs

Upon completion of the collection, the Platform compares the photographs with its dataset on car damage to identify the damage and the extent of the damage. The system will then generate maintenance cost estimates and detailed test reports.

The report, previously presented by the company, lists the hours of work required for maintenance, spare parts and the corresponding costs, in the form of test documents in close proximity to those produced by the traditional squirt shop. Self Action also states that the system can access OBD2 computer data to supplement more detailed vehicle information.

  • Vehicle tests completed: over 1 million
  • Customer cost savings: over $8 million
  • Savings in operating time: over 300,000 hours

New funds will be used for expansion and development

In addition to Sandberg Bernthal Venture Partners under the Sandberg flag, the current round of finance introduced strategic investments by the tyre distributor U.S. AutoForce and the car lending agency Westlake Financial. Costanoa Ventures, Rebellion Ventures and BrightCap Ventures are also involved.

Self Inspection indicates that new funds will be used to develop more products, expand more business clients and boost market expansion in Europe.

In recent years, a growing number of start-ups have tried to transform the automobile industry with AI. Some companies focus on the communication and transaction processes of distributors, while others also enter vehicle testing at the infrastructure level. In contrast, Self Implementation places more emphasis on light-quantitative deployments, with a desire to lower the detection threshold and expand the use of the enterprise by mobile phone cameras.
