Google is integrating NotebookLM into the Gemini brand system. This product, which was first featured in Project Tailwind during Google I/O in 2023, has evolved from a pilot project to an AI notebook tool for individuals and institutions.

User size expanded to institutional scene

Google states that NotebookLM currently has 30 million users, covering more than 600,000 institutions. Over the past three years, the product has been added to interactive podcast generation, selected notebooks, video overviews, additional document format support and enterprise version programmes.

TechCrunch mentions that the development of NotebookLM has also led other companies and start-ups to introduce similar tools based on information generation podcasts and supporting research.

Additional code implementation capability

This change of name is accompanied by a functional update. Google sets each notebook as a separate safe container, in which the user can generate a code to make the output more interactive.

The company stated that the addition code would allow users to direct multiple sources of information within the tool to perform more complex data analysis tasks without having to export content to other environments.

  • Code execution is open to Google AI Ultra users
  • Some of the workspace commercial clients are also available.
  • Pro Users will be granted permission in the coming weeks

Access to Gemini and search

Google also indicates that users are now able to view their notebook contents in the Gemini application. Next, this capability will also access AI Mode in the search.

This shows that Google is continuing to integrate the decentralized AI tool portal and to gradually integrate research, generation and search capabilities into the same Gemini product system.
