According to information sources quoted by Bloomberg, Google Gemini 3.5 Pro was released several months later than originally planned. After the news came out, Alphabet stock prices fell by about 4 per cent, and the market was more concerned about the pace of Google’s advance in the new AI competition.
Google had presented Gemini 3.5 Pro for the first time at the Google I/O Developer's Conference in May and stated that the model had been used within the company, but needed to be further tested before being made available to a wider audience. At that pace, it was expected that it would be rolled out gradually within the following month, but the latest information indicated that the timing of the launch had shifted.
Internal tests still not up to expectations
It is reported that Google is still optimizing the overall performance of the model, with programming capacity not yet up to the standards of the company. This means that while Gemini 3.5 Pro is in the testing phase, it is still a distance from official mass distribution.
The Alphabet spokesperson then stated to CNBC that the company remained focused on the introduction of advanced and cost-effective AI models. According to the speaker, Google was currently testing Gemini 3.5 Pro and other multiple AI systems with partners.
AI Model competition continues to heat up
At the time of the Gemini 3.5 Pro extension, OpenAI and Meta had recently accelerated the release of new models.
- Meta recently launched Muse Spark 1.1
- Meta AI director calls it the company's strongest agent and programming model
- OpenAI release GPT-5.6 Sol
The CEO of OpenAI, Sam Altman, stated that the efficiency of the new model in the proxy programming task token was increased by 54 per cent. The publication schedule of Google is therefore more market-oriented in the context of software development and of the competitive focus of AI.
Share price responses reflect market expectations
For large technology companies, the pace of the release of flagship models not only relates to the landing of products, but also affects investors ' judgement of their technological leadership and ability to commercialize. This delay triggered a fall in the prices of Alphabet stock, indicating that the market remains highly sensitive to Google AI progress.
As leading technology firms continue to expand their model capabilities, cost controls and business cooperation, the next phase of competition will focus more on actual performance, the use of developers and the speed of commercial deployment.
