Netflix’s latest regulatory document reveals that the leading media company has purchased $587 million in cash from the original company InterPositive. The company was co-founded by actor and director Ben Aflake and the deal was announced to the public in March of this year, when no specific amount was disclosed.

Cash against $587 million

According to the bulletin, the purchase was completed in cash. Previously, Netflix had only confirmed that InterPositive would be incorporated into the company, that Ben Affleck would serve as a senior adviser and that the team would join as a whole, without disclosing financial terms.

Subsequently, Bloomberg reported that the total value of the transaction could be close to $600 million. This regulatory document gives a clearer figure, which is largely close to previous external reporting.

Tool-focused video post-production

The company disclosed that the InterPositive AI tool was used mainly for late film processing, with a focus on helping the production team to repair common problems in realistic filming.

Such tools could be used to fill the missing lens, to replace the background, or to correct the imprecision of the light, as Afric said at the time. The presentation shows that Netflix values the usefulness of such tools in the production process rather than the complete substitution of creation.

Netflix expanded the generation AI use

Netflix also mentioned in its latest financial report that about 300 works had been generated in AI. This means that the technology is no longer at the test stage but is beginning to enter a wider content production process.

The acquisition also reflects the continued integration of AI capabilities into the internal production system. For Netflix, direct acquisition teams may be more conducive to controlling production efficiency, cost and landing rhythms than simply purchasing external software.

Additional information:In accordance with previous public arrangements, the InterPositive team will be joined as a whole by Netflix, while Ben Aflake will be involved in the follow-up as a senior adviser.
