YouTube further refines the platform's liquidity limits for low-quality AI content, and it is clear that three types of video classified as “unreal content” will not be available for advertising and subscriptions via YouTube Partner Programme (YPP). The new note entered into force on 16 July and applies to all YPP members.

Three categories of content are included in the limitation

This update is not the first time that an AI content is restricted. YouTube began to limit bulk production and repeatable content conversion last year. The most recent adjustment is to add a more specific implementation threshold to the old rules.

According to the new note, non-removable content consists mainly of three types: videos that are generic, repetitive or based on a template mass; videos that deliberately create discomfort or emotional irritation to get hits; and content that uses AI virtual characters to discuss sensitive topics such as finance, law and medicine.

The platform focuses on “content farms”

Matt Halprin, Head of Trust and Security in YouTube, stated in a Creator Insider video that the focus of this revision of the platform was to compress “content farm” space, that is, low-quality videos that are produced in fast bulk, mainly to generate traffic and income.

He stated that AI tools were not by themselves excluded. The Platform ' s endorsement of AI can help creators to be more efficient and support more frequent production of quality content. But the same tools can be used to quickly replicate a large number of similar videos, which lack significant creativity and narratives and are the objects that YPP does not want to encourage.

In the first category, for example, the platform names elements that can easily be generated by AI, CGI or templates and that differ very little from video to video. YouTube also mentioned that some course-type videos could also be included in this limitation if they simply repeated what already existed on the platform.

Sensitive subject, AI. Virtual people are included.

The second type of content focuses on “uncomfortable” videos. According to YouTube, such content often pursues the volume by causing pain, shock or emotional manipulation. For example, a video showing animals in distress before arranging “help” scenarios could fall into this range.

YouTube indicates that even if the video is not generated by AI, the channel may be moved out of the YPP if it relies mainly on this content.

The third category is directed more directly to AI virtual figures. The Platform does not want the creators to use the image of the real person generated by AI to discuss sensitive topics such as finance, law, health and medicine, and thereby gain a liquidity incentive.

At the commercial level, YPP is an important component of YouTube advertising and subscription income systems. At this time, the Platform has further clarified its boundaries and is also linked to its competition for a budget for television advertising, maintenance of quality of content and retention of users. TechCrunch mentions that YouTube currently has more advertising revenues than some of the current media competitors, and that the global daily average is higher than Netflix.
