The construction of light voltage and storage projects is accelerating, but the difficulties of site recruitment have become a reality. In the past, it was difficult for robots to stabilize off-site construction sites; as the AI model and machine visualization improved, such scenarios began to show more explicit opportunities for commercialization.
Disclosure of cumulative financing $34 million
Gritt was created by two robotic engineers from Carnegie Mellon background. The company announced the end of its covert operations and disclosed a cumulative financing of $34 million, the latest round of which was $26 million for Round A, with the participation of Obvious Ventures and the participation of Union Square Ventures and Active Impact Investment.
The company had also previously completed seed-wheel financing, with investments from First Round Capital, Climacial, Continental Ventures and VSC Ventures. The entry point for Gritt is the construction of a photovoltaic power station, which is expected to increase the speed of infrastructure construction with an AI system.

The Gritt was not a self-improvement machine, but rather a platform with ready-made equipment, including rental of engineering vehicles and mechanical arms of manufacturers such as Kawasaki, which were then controlled by the home AI model. The company currently handles, inter alia, the unloading, handling and positioning of photovoltaic panels, which are then fixed by the workers.
According to data provided by the company, the traditional 8-person construction team will install approximately 800 panels per day; if accompanied by the Gritt system, the single-day installation of the same-size team could be increased to 3000 to 4000. The company stated that its positioning accuracy could be sub-millimetres.

Gritt states that two systems are now in place and that construction data are used on a continuous basis to optimize model performance. According to the company, the size of the photovoltaic project, which was contracted to be installed within the next 18 months, was 2.8 Giwa, with customers including three of the top 10 power construction enterprises in the United States.
The company plans to deploy 48 systems within the next six months. For remote sites, the value of such equipment is more direct, as it is usually more difficult to recruit enough workers locally. Clients also mentioned that when robots are involved in handling, workers do not have to raise about 100 pounds of panels repeatedly and the risk of injury is expected to decrease.
Next step extends to more construction tasks
According to Gritt, the progress of the AI model in recent years has made it easier to move construction automation to different processes. The company cited, for example, the training system that had taken weeks to stack concrete blocks, and the re-use of the same software, which had taken only one day to complete the ligation demonstration.
Next, Grett hopes to expand its capabilities to fixed photovoltaic panels, drilling poles and construction support, and plans to enter more labour-intensive construction tasks in the long term. The company also envisages the use of sensors and AI systems for site management, such as the identification of unsealed trenches prior to heavy rains, or a reminder of missing inventory on site.
