Telegram is moving encryption further to the main application portal. The founder, Pavel Dorov, said that the platform plans to integrate the original non-hosting Gram wallets into every Telegram application this summer. If you land as planned, this will be directly accessible to over 1 billion users.
Coverage or up to 1 billion users
Unlike the custodian's wallet, the non-host's wallet is left to the user's own private key and recovery phrase, and the control of assets is not in the hands of third parties. This means that the user can directly manage the assets in the chain, but also has to take responsibility for the key.
Durove also stated that the wallet would support an “immediate, zero-fee” encrypted transfer, showing that its location was not just an asset storage tool, but also intended to cover the day-to-day payment scene. However, Telegram does not disclose further technical details of the assets it supports, the chain-based operation, and the specific go-live rhythm.
The relationship with TON is again noted
This move also brought renewed attention to the long-term link between Telegram and the block chain. In 2018, Telegram had raised approximately $1.7 billion for Telegram Open Network and Gram tokens, but was subsequently sued by the United States Securities and Exchange Commission.
The SEC considered that the sale of the token constituted the issuance of unregistered securities. Telegram eventually reconciled with regulation in 2020 and abandoned the original TON project.
Lower threshold for use of primary integration
If the wallet is embedded directly in a large global communications application, users will no longer have to download the third-party wallet application separately, which will significantly lower the threshold for first-time contact with an encrypted asset. For industry, such entry-level products are more likely to bring in large-scale new users than a single agreement or a separate wallet.
At present, Telegram has not published a full product description, nor has it indicated whether it will be available in the area. This will be one of the largest non-host wallet deployments in the encryption industry if it eventually reaches its entire user base.
