YouTube announces that it will adjust its playload statistics from August 24th. Under the new rule, the video is counted as one view from the start and users are counted on the live booth. According to the Platform, this is a statistical calibration to harmonize different content patterns.

Align with Shorts caliber

It has been a year since the same approach was taken to YouTube for Shorts. It was previously widely accepted that long videos usually needed to be viewed for about 30 seconds to be recorded for play, but that the platform had not in the past disclosed specific criteria for the old calibre.

YouTube states in community announcements that the Platform has historically used multiple statistical systems for different content formats. The creators wanted to reduce the confusion of the indicator and to have a clearer understanding of the reach of content, so the Platform decided to update the indicator.

Publicly broadcast or significantly increased

With the liberalization of the statistical calibration, those videos that can only attract users for a short period of time, the number on the front desk may increase significantly. This also means that, in the future, it may be more difficult for creators, advertisers and viewers to judge the true heat of a video solely on the basis of its public broadcast.

At the same time, data that would have better reflected the desire to see on a continuous basis would have been retained. YouTube indicates that creators can continue to view the original indicator through the Analytics tool, now renamed "Engageed Views" to measure how many users choose to continue watching.

Income rules remain unaffected

YouTube states that this update will not affect the income of the creator or change the way it became eligible for liquidation through its YouTube partner programme. Just a week ago, however, the Platform announced that it would raise the threshold for new creators to enter the advertising and subscription division system from next year.

  • During the past year, at least 800 hours of qualifying viewing Long
  • Or at least 20 million shorts played in 90 days
  • The current threshold is 1000 subscribers plus 4000 hours or 10 million Shorts playing

The combination of these two changes has provoked some dissatisfaction among users and creators. Critics argue that while the number of front-stage broadcasts is more likely to rise, the difficulty of actually entering and remaining in the liquidity system is increasing.
