Binance reportedly intends to submit an application for authorization after the open application window of the British Financial Conduct Regulatory Authority (FCA), with the aim of re-entering the local market after the full encryption regulatory framework for the United Kingdom came into effect in 2027. The plan is still at the application stage and approval is dependent on the outcome of the regulatory review.
The application window will open in September.
The new British authorization window will run from 30 September 2026 to 28 February 2027. The new encryption regulatory framework is scheduled to be formally implemented on October 25, 2027.
FCA continues to restrict the activities of Binance Markets Limited without written consent. The regulator has also previously indicated that the Binance Group has no other authorized entity in the United Kingdom.
Regulatory focus on compliance capacity
The UK requires applicant institutions to meet the standards of capital, governance, trusteeship, financial crime control and consumer protection. Trading platforms are also subject to market abuse controls, asset access and disclosure requirements.
FCA Executive Director for Payments and Digital Finance, David Geale, said that the new system would allow encryption companies to accept “similar standards” with other financial service providers in the United Kingdom.
Binance still hasn't identified the specific applicant.
It was mentioned that Binance had not publicly confirmed whether an application had been submitted, nor had it been indicated which legal entity would make the application. Similarly, the company did not disclose what operations were planned to resume in the United Kingdom, including spot transactions, hosting or pledge services.
If the application is granted, Binance still has to face the formal decision of the FCA, as well as adjustments to the existing restrictions. The FCA also emphasized that the submission of an application did not amount to automatic approval, and that an enterprise must only obtain authorization through a review.
