Ripple announced cooperation with the Korea Regional Bank, All North Bank, which will access Ripple Payments to handle international transfers. This is also the first regional bank in Korea to adopt the platform. It was stated that the new services would be used to improve the efficiency of cross-border remittances and to reduce the waiting time and process complexity of traditional transfers.

Cross-border payments for services to enterprises

According to the information disclosed by Ripple, this cooperation is mainly used to optimize the international payment system of banks across the North. Traditional cross-border transfers usually take days to complete, while access to Ripple Payments reduces settlement time to seconds to minutes and supports all-weather operations, including weekends and holidays.

The target clients of the new services are business-oriented and focus on three types of business:

  • Import-export enterprises
  • IT Creative Corporation
  • Digital content related enterprises

Ripple Regional Director General, Asia Pacific Region, Fiona Murray, stated that the use of related infrastructure in the financial sector of Korean institutions was increasing. For its part, Bank of the North stated that this cooperation would help it to upgrade its digital financial services capacity.

Whether to use XRP is not published

Although the cooperation has been confirmed, the parties have not disclosed more specific funding arrangements, nor have they explained the type of settlement that would eventually be used for the payment system. The announcement does not specify whether the RLUD stabilization currency introduced by XRP, Ripple or the direct use of the French currency for the transfer of French currency.

Currently, there are several key details missing from the public information:

  • Service officially online
  • Cost structure
  • First countries and territories covered

This means that the direction of cooperation is clear, but specific product patterns and commercial arrangements remain to be disclosed.

Ripple continues to expand Korean institutional cooperation

This cooperation is another development of Ripple's cooperation in Korea this year. According to the information in the text, Ripple has this year concluded three major institutional cooperation in Korea.

Among them, on April 15th, Human Security worked with Ripple to explore the settlement of national debt based on block chains. On April 27, Kbank, in cooperation with Ripple, introduced the Ripple Custody-based institution-level Wallet as a Service. This collaboration with the All North Bank further pushed Ripple Payments into the cross-border payment scene with the Bank of Korea.

Ripple’s payment infrastructure currently supports Korean Won settlement. Its public files show that, in a given business scenario, a single transfer of business-to-business funds by Korean Won can amount to up to $2 million.
