XRP's primary bridge role in XRP Ledger (XRPL) continues, and the latest data and community disclosures bring this function back to market view again. In the past 72 hours, XRPL's go-to-centre exchange will automatically complete the trade route via XRP when the path is better; at the same time, approximately 2 million payments were allegedly made between the chain AI agents.
Auto-routing via XRP within 72 hours
According to XRPL dUNL certifier Vet, XRP is an original bridge carrying asset for XRPL. When the direct trade path between the two assets is not ideal, the system automatically selects “assets A → XRP →assets B” as a way to make a match for better liquidity or price.
This mechanism does not depend on additional smart contracts, nor does it require third-party bridging services, but is directly embedded in the XRPL agreement. The data cited in the article show that transactions made through this automated bridging mechanism accounted for 0.16 per cent of the XRPL DEX transactions over the past 72 hours.
AI agent payments bring in new use scenes
Another data mentioned is from RippleXity. It states that approximately 2 million payments were settled between the XRPL AI agents. It was argued that such activities would be more appropriate for machine-to-mechanical small-scale settlements, such as API calls, data purchases, computing and payment for digital services.
The report also gives a set of comparisons: if the cost per bank card is estimated at a minimum of $0.30, the corresponding cost for 2 million transactions would be approximately $0.6 million; if the network cost per 0.00001 XRP is used for XRPL, the combined cost of 2 million transactions would be only 20 XRP, provided the rate remains constant.
Payments are in the same book as liquidity
This cost structure is more operational for automated software requiring frequent initiation of micropayments. It also means that AI agents can complete HF small payments without relying on bank cards, bank accounts or traditional liquidation periods.
The article also mentions that the original DEX of XRPL provides chain liquidity support for this model. AI, upon receipt of an asset by an agent, can theoretically be converted directly into the books of accounts without having to transfer the asset to an external platform. The bridging and settlement role of XRPP in XRPL has been further amplified as AI agent payments and transactions within the books have increased.
