Citi flag announcements indicate that the Bank plans to launch a bitcoin hosting service, open to institutional clients, later this year. The new service will be incorporated into its recently released Custody+ platform, which allows clients to hold bitcoin and traditional financial assets under the same set of infrastructure.
Include in the same hosting framework
Custody+ was issued by Citicorp Infrastructure Operations, which integrated hosting, settlement, foreign exchange and cash management services. In accordance with Citi-flag disclosure, the platform will support Bitcoin at an early stage, with specific access times not yet announced.
This means that some institutional clients can in the future manage shares, bonds and bitcoins in the same bank, without relying on an independent, encrypted custodian. Access paths will also be more direct for clients who already use Citigroup hosting networks.
Over 100 markets.
Citi flag indicates that its hosting operations currently serve over 100 markets, of which 62 are covered by the Bank ' s own hosting network. In the event of the official landing of a bitcoin hosting, these clients will be able to access the encrypted asset hosting service through existing banking relationships.
Amit Agarwal, Chief of Citicorp Investors ' Services Hosting Operations, stated that Custody+ was part of the Bank ' s multi-year infrastructure input, with the aim of bringing the hosting system closer to the pace of customer transactions and configurations.
Bank expedites access to encrypted hosting
Citi flag at the same time discloses that the Bank has been upgrading the back-office system in recent years to reduce the processing time for hosting-related processes. Its new technology in the United States had centralized a number of hosting events into a single system. Citigroup claims that more than 80% of related events can be processed in real time, with a maximum of 92% reduction in the length of processing, of which 96% can be completed within two hours.
In large financial institutions, Citi flag is not the first to set a bitcoin. In 2022, Melon Bank in New York provided encryption hosting services to some United States clients, and Fieldy Digital Assets and Coinbase already provided related services to the agency.
Additional information:The SEC withdrew SAB 121 in 2025. This accounting policy had previously raised the cost of holding encrypted assets for the bank ' s clients and, following its withdrawal, the resistance of large banks to entering related business had decreased.
