The social platform Bluesky states that the recent service interruption was triggered by another round of distributed denial-of-service attacks (DDoS). The company stated that it had upgraded its defensive measures in response to the incident and would continue to monitor the situation, but did not disclose further technical details.
Platform says it's upgraded.
Bluesky explained the cause of the failure through the platform, stating that the attack had resulted in irregular service access. TechCrunch reported that the Bluesky spokesman had not responded further to the details of the attack.
The DDoS attacks usually result in slow or short-term off-line access through the continuous injection of large amounts of ineffective traffic into websites or servers, crowding out bandwidth and computing resources. Such attacks often rely on controlled networking equipment, through which the attackers form a proxy network or a zombie network to focus their impact on the target.
Attribution in public forums
When the attack was discussed at the IFIN Public Forum, security researchers mentioned that Iranian-related attackers claimed responsibility. However, Bluesky itself did not publicly identify the source of the attack, and the existing attributions are mainly from statements seen in open channels by researchers.
Ground risk from event background
The report mentions that since the outbreak of the United States-Israeli-led war earlier this year there has been an increase in Iranian cyberattacks against United States enterprises and critical infrastructure. There is no further public evidence as to whether the attack on Bluesky was directly related to the broader operation.
From the information disclosed, Bluesky ' s current focus remains on maintaining service stability and continuing to observe follow-up attacks.
