OpenAI has not yet published the official release time for Astra, but predicts that market traders have clearly shifted to “short-term go-live” judgements. Astra is considered to be the code for the next generation of models within OpenAI, which is commonly associated with GPT-6.
OpenAi's security concerns first.
On 7 August, OpenAI stated that the company had slowed the roll-out of Astra because internal tests showed that the model had significantly improved its capabilities in proxy programming and network security. In its preparatory disclosure, the company stated that it could not at this stage exclude its ability to reach the “Critical” level network.
According to OpenAI ' s own framework, if the model reaches this threshold, it means that it may, in the absence of manual assistance, look for and construct available zero-day loopholes for multiple types of systems with greater protection. This is also a direct reason for the company to suspend the release of the rhythm.
Polymarket's bets will be released by the end of September.
Despite official caution, the related contract on Polymark showed that traders generally expected it not to be issued too late.
- As of September 15th, the probability was about 59%.
- The probability of being released by 30 September is about 72%.
- On a week-by-week basis, the probability of August 31 to September 6 is about 39%.
Of that amount, the 15-day contract on September 15 was in the order of $27.6 million, while the 30- September contract was in the order of $35.6 million. As OpenAI has not yet given a public date, these contracts will eventually be settled on the basis of an official corporate announcement.
The judgements of different platforms are not consistent
In Myriad, a projected market operated by the Detrypt parent company, Dastan, traders were equally inclined towards the end of September, but the judgement was not as centralized as Polymarket.
- September 30th is about 31% probability.
- The probability of September 15 is about 19%.
- The probability is about 5% on August 21st.
It is mentioned that the bets around the timing of the release of OpenAI products have become a common topic in the forecast market. As market week trades are projected to rise to about $2 billion this year, this type of time judgement related to the AI Big Model also attracts more funding. Previously, in July, the market had given about 78 per cent of the probability that GPT-6 would be published by 30 September.
Additional information:OpenAI also stated that Astra had nothing to do with the recent exploitation of Hugging Face and was intended to cut the model off from an external security incident.
