Toyota will recall in the United States more than 588 million Camery hybrid vehicles because the instrumentation system of some vehicles shows deficiencies and may be blackscreened when they are activated, resulting in several security tips not being properly displayed. After the news came out, Toyota stock prices fell.
The U.S. recalled over half a million.
The US recall involved a total of 508,354 Camery vehicles with a 7-inch meter screen in 2025 and 2026. According to Toyota, the same issue involves approximately 655,000 Camerys worldwide.
The National Road Traffic Safety Administration of the United States indicated that if the screen failed, the driver might not be able to see the switchlight, the hazard warning light, and the associated tips for the seat belt and smart key system. This reduces feedback during driving and increases the risk of accidents.
Problems focused on the 7-inch monitor.
Toyota states that the affected vehicles were mainly partial versions with smaller instrument screens, including parts of the LE, SE and Nightshade models. Versions XLE and XSE with 12.3 inch screens are not in this recall range.
The regulatory document also stated that the vehicle did not meet United States federal motor vehicle safety standards and therefore required the initiation of recall procedures.
The distributor will update the software free of charge.
Toyota indicated that the issue would be addressed by the distributor through the software upgrade at no cost to the owner. Notice letters from the United States market are expected to be sent from September 21st and continue until early October.
At the time of the recall, Toyota was still expanding its hybrid vehicle operations. In the first half of 2026, Camere increased its sales by 15.3 per cent each year, and the importance of this car to Toyota was further increased in the context of the growing demand for electric power.
