Solana is pushing the main network to speed up. The network has completed the first round of parameter adjustments by moving the break-up from 400 ms to 350 ms. This setting is expected to take effect on 21 August 2026, corresponding to Epoch 1020.

This update was advanced by Solana R & D, Anza, as part of the upgrade of Agave v4.2 certificationer client. Following the established route, the drop-off break will continue in phases, with the goal of compressing the main network to 200 ms.
If this goal is met, Solana theoretically will double the frequency of block release and will simultaneously increase the number of blocks that can be processed by the network. It was also mentioned that shortening the time window in which the leader continues to come out of the block would also help to reduce the control of single blockers in a short period of time.
Test net approaching 200 milliseconds.
Anza CEO Brennan Watt says that the slot time of the Solana testing network has been reduced to 182 milliseconds at one time. Test web browser data show an average break of about 193 milliseconds over the past hour, which indicates that some of the previous wheeled incremental adjustments have largely landed.
According to the test web rhythm, the new downwards are usually pushed every two epochs. If the main network follows a similar arrangement, 200 ms apart may be operational around Epoch 1026, and the time is roughly around 1 September.
However, the speed at which the main network is advancing has not been finalized. The report mentions that the Solana certifier has reached a consensus that if the network is high, the next round of acceleration will not continue.
Overlay block upper limit
In addition to shortening the space between blocks, Solana has recently been increasing the size of blocks. In a podcast, the CEO of Helius Mert Muttaz said that if a faster slot time worked with a higher block ceiling, the short-term performance of the network could be four times higher.
Alpenglow was also included in the subsequent upgrade plan. The program, also designed by Anza, aims to adjust the Solana Consensus process to reduce the final confirmation time of the transaction to 150 ms and to reduce the voting cost per epoch of the certifier to approximately 1.6 SOL, which is below the current level of about 2.4 SOL.
In terms of schedule, 350 milliseconds is just the starting point of Solana's current round of upgrades. Whether the main network continues to move at the pace of the test will depend on the stability of the network and on the results of the certificationer ' s observations of operational data.
