Telegram is trying to extend its user name to the open Internet. If the.gram top level domain name is finally approved, the user may use an address similar to your name.gram in the future and post the content within the Telegram system.
Application entered ICANN rotation
The application was submitted by Pavel Durov, founder of Telegram. According to him, users can receive the.gram address corresponding to the user name and generate interactive web pages with Telegram providing hosting services.
This means that Telegram wants to further develop the existing system of accounts into a single identity portal. User names were originally only used in applications and could be extended to a wider web site view if the domain name programme landed.
Approval process or duration for several months
However,.gram is still a queuing application. ICANN closed its 2026 application window on August 12th. It lasted 15 weeks and received more than 1,600 main applications and approximately 1100 back-up string applications.
Next, ICANN expects to publish a string of initial clean-up by mid-October, followed by assessment, competitive resolution and contracting. The whole process may last for months, so.gram is really operational, probably not earlier than 2027.
There is no information as to whether Telegram will distribute the.gram address to all accounts free of charge. This means that there is still a clear distance between the plan and the official landing.

In addition to the domain name project, Telegram is also moving the wider chain. It was mentioned that its ecology also included planned original non-host wallets and roles in network certification infrastructure.
Pavel Durov also stated that future web page generation could be done through a single AI reminder. If this scenario landes, Telegram will have access to both the identity portal, the page generation and the hosting link, leaving more of its use in its own ecology.
