Google is providing new access to publishers. The company indicated that readers could now click on the button directly on the media website to set the site as a “preferred source” and that the content would appear more frequently in Google Seach, Discover and Google News.
New button for publishers
This function is called “Preferred Resources”. Google allows online publishers to embed buttons on their websites, which allow readers to mark frequent media with one key. This option has previously appeared in Google 's AI Mode, AI Overviews and Top Stores.
Google says this is to make it easier for users to find familiar and trusted sources when searching for content or using AI. The company also mentioned that since the introduction of the functionality in May, users had selected more than 34.55 million independent sources.
Adjustments under flow pressure
Google also indicated that the publisher ' s website might receive more hits when it became a source of preferences. Citing earlier studies, the company states that when users see the source of preference, the probability of hits is twice as high as the average source.
This adjustment occurred after the fast expansion of the AI search. As AI generation of answers and abstracts becomes more common, media sites relying on search traffic face increased pressure. Google is also trying to alleviate external concerns about the decline in flows.
Discover and News will also be updated
Apart from the new button, Google also plans to allow users to customize Discover information streams in natural languages. Users can enter themes in the three-point menu of the flow that they want to see more or less, and the system adjusts them accordingly in real time.
Android users can also customise the content of daily audio bulletins in Google News applications in the future. Google states that these updates will continue to strengthen individualized recommendations.
