OpenRouter recently launched a free AI model called Ox Alpha. The platform describes it as a model of reasoning for code-oriented, continuous proxy missions and work in the production environment. Stripe's CEO Patrick Collison also called it “very good” on X.
The source identity is a mystery.
OpenRouter's page describes Ox Alpha as a “hidden model” and states that it is developed and operated by a third-party provider who chooses to be anonymous. That is why the outside world began to ask which company it originated.
The guess is in China.
AI analyst Andrew Curran stated that the initial speculation focused on the GLM series model of the Chinese company Z.ai, but the market judgement became less certain. Wccftech also raised the possibility that both the GLM and Microsoft had not published MAI versions.
