The U.S. Automobile Safety Regulator is increasing the scope of the review of the General Motor Braking System. Recent progress indicates that the survey has been upgraded from an early gap verification to an “engineering analysis”, which usually means that the regulator is assessing the need for further promotion of recall.

According to the United States National Road Traffic Safety Administration, the deficiencies investigation office has indicated that the problems involved general-purpose multi-charged electric vehicles, as well as some non-electrical models, potentially affecting over 1 million vehicles.

Further upgrade of investigation level

This survey started in April 2024, as a result of the failure report submitted by the owner of Section 2023, Cadillac Lyriq. Early complaints referred to “branch system failure” signals when vehicles were activated or when they were fully parked.

The regulatory documents indicate that General had previously conducted too many rounds of internal investigations and attributed the problem to the break-up of a component of his eBoost Line Control System called spindle.

However, the regulator indicated that further reports received subsequently were not fully consistent with this interpretation. Some owners claimed that the vehicle would suddenly lose brake support during the brakes, rather than having an anomaly only in start-up or parking.

Regulatory attention to brakes is suddenly lost.

In the view of United States regulators, such situations could lead to longer brake distances, which would increase the risk of collisions or injuries. The focus of the investigation has therefore shifted to whether there are other failures in the eBoost system.

In an incident referred to the regulator, a 2025 Lyriq owner stated that the vehicle had lost control of the parking space in front of the shop, then crossed the road and crashed into the shop, eventually parked in the shop.

Another section 2024 Blazer EV owner stated that, in order to avoid a more severe collision at the intersection, the vehicle could only voluntarily be diverted to the concrete road to force it to slow down.

Involving multi-purpose Honda

The eBoost system has been imported since 2019 and has since been extended to more vehicles. Unlike traditional mechanical connections, the system connects the brake pedal with the brake system by electronic means, allowing the car to adjust the brake feel under different driving patterns.

The types of vehicles currently known to be carrying the system include Chevron Blazer EV, Equinox EV, Cadillac Lyriq, and Honda Prologue and Acura ZDX, produced in cooperation with Honda. Some non-electric vehicles, such as Chevy Colorado, GMC Canyon, Buick Enclave and Envision, are also included.

This means that the survey could affect not only the utility motor vehicle operation, but also its wider product line and quality management pressure.
