Coinbase is transforming the business chat tool Slack into a direct solvency payment portal. Based on its internal functionality, the system can be automatically paid by AI agents and return the result in the dialogue window if the answer to the questions asked by the robot in Slack.

USDC and Base-based settlements

This feature is based on Coinbase's own development platform and accesss the X402 protocol that it introduces. The agreement is described as a payment standard for HTTP scenarios to synchronize service calls with payment actions.

The report mentions that transactions are settled through USDC on the Base network, with a single payment cost of less than one cent, with a completion time of approximately 200 ms. For users, questions, call services and payments can be done in an interactive setting without having to jump to an external page.

Other Organiser

Unlike common business services, the tool does not require a user to establish a subscription relationship and does not require manual approval. The system will make automatic payments within the pre-set expenditure cap and will be suitable for high-frequency and low-value service calls.

According to the text, when the user is in the Slack @ robot, the agent goes to the service market called x402 Bazaar to retrieve the payable interface, selects the corresponding service and completes the payment and returns the answer. The market currently lists over 10,000 serviceable services.

  • Disbursement asset: USDC
  • Clearing Web: Base
  • Process time extension: about 200 ms

Coinbase bet on AI proxy payment scene

The Chief Executive Officer of Coinbase Brian Armstrong linked this function to the AI proxy use scene, arguing that reduced payment friction would increase the efficiency of people and machines to access information. The article mentions that Coinbase refers to this direction as “Agentic Payments”, which allows the AI system not only to engage in dialogue but also to carry out economic activities on its own.

At the operational level, the tool is now more like an extension of the ability to pay and to call services than a direct leverage of exchange cash or derivatives. It was also reported that Slack integrated processing was done through USDC and Base in small amounts, and that the Coinbase transaction was not the same income or trade link.

If such capacity to pay is subsequently extended to more services and more users, Coinbase is expected to add new access to the platform beyond the transaction and further strengthen the role of USDC and Base in its ecology.
