This statement does not mean that Falcon 9 or Falcon Heavy has set retirement time. Mask described a precondition, not a specific timetable.

Currently, the Falcon Series remains at the heart of SpaceX launch operations. According to reports, SpaceX completed the 100th Hawk Series of 2026 on 22 August, 99 of which were falcon 9 launches. Prior to that, Falcon 9 completed a record 165 successful missions in 2025.

Starship still has key nodes to verify

Market concerns focused on SpaceX ' s plan to replace one of the most sophisticated commercial rockets in the world with a system still being tested.

Starship aims to achieve reuse of boosters and upper stages in order to further reduce launch costs and increase launch frequency to higher levels. However, this route still needs to cross several key nodes.

It was reported that Mask had recently postponed the first attempt at the upper stage of Starship for months to recover the launch tower. He anticipated that Starship's first double flight might be by the end of 2026 or early 2027, while Flight 14 was expected to try Starship's first reorbiting mission.

Market reassessment of transition risks

This means that investors are facing one of the most important strategic shifts in recent years: One is a high-frequency, highly reliable falcon system, and the other is Starship, which is expected to bring a lower cost and higher frequency of launch.

In the short term, the market focus is not only on forward cost advantages, but also on whether Starship will be able to complete key tests as planned and whether SpaceX will be able to maintain the current launch business tempo during resource transfer.
